Nature in the City

Nature in the City is a professional development workshop for early childhood educators on fostering natural and environmental competencies in young children. The workshop draws on Noelle Swan’s twelve years experience as a classroom teacher coupled with an academic background in natural science and environmental studies. The workshop focuses on the cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and physical benefits of facilitating the child interactions with nature both in and out of the classroom. The Wooded Classroom Slideshow chronicles a year-long exploration of a small wooded detailing countless spontaneous learning opportunities.

This workshop can be adjusted to meet either Massachusetts Early Education and Care Core Competency 5–Learning Environments and Curriculum or 6–Observation, Assessment, and Documentation.
